Jude's First Visitors

Jude is one week old today!  He continues to do well with all of his normal baby activities; however, his sats have continued to drop over the last 24 hours.  Still not enough to warrant going back on the medicine, but enough to indicate he may need a procedure of some sort in the near future.  We slept in with him last night for the first time, making it easier to nurse him throughout the night. He's gained weight and is already over his birth weight.  He likes to eat 😊 The echo today showed that the PDA is still open, but it is smaller.  So the plan for the weekend is to continue to monitor him, restarting the PGE medicine if his sats drop too low.  Ideally, the PDA would continue to close slowly, but his sats would be 75 or above consistently and he wouldn't need surgery.  At this point, it doesn't seem likely that will be the case.

Today, Alex & Josiah came to Houston to visit us and meet Jude for the first time.  They were both so excited, and it's so wonderful to have them here with us.

Waiting to meet Jude
First Look
Meeting with the Child Life Specialist for
their first visit.

The Child Life Specialist did a wonderful job explaining to the boys what Jude's room looked like and why he needed so many machines before we went in.

The boys took turns holding him while he was sleeping.

After the boys visited, my mom was able to come up and spend some time with Jude.

We spent the evening with the boys and they are staying with us here in the apartment this weekend.  I feel as if my heart has been ripped in two, half with me here in my apartment and half still in the hospital waiting to see what the future holds.  I love all three of them so much, and Jesse and I are so thankful to have them in our lives.
